When you decide to buy or sell a home with The Rob Thompson Homes Team, who will you be working with? Whether you’ve found us by referral or you go way back with one of our team members, you’ll cross paths with multiple friendly faces throughout the process of a home transaction.

The more you get to know our team, the more clearly you’ll see how our skills, interests, and strengths come together to provide the most seamless experience for every transaction. That’s the inspiration for our new Team Spotlight Series, where we’ll each share aspects of ourselves you might not find in a standard online bio.

You’ll find that our cohesive team is the sum of various unique parts. We each find beauty in different details of Colorado and the real estate process, making for the perfect mix!

Let’s start at the very beginning (a very good place to start).

Q: As a kid, what did you want to “be” when you grew up? How does that fit into your journey into Colorado real estate?

Rob: I wanted to be a navy pilot. That wasn't just a childhood dream, but something I was actively pursuing in high school. As it turned out, I learned I was colorblind. Not only could I not fly, but I couldn't attend the Naval Academy either. That led me to the Air Force Academy, which is where it all really started. I fell in love with Colorado (and my wife), and my first mentor in real estate was another Academy graduate that I knew when we were both cadets. It's amazing how things happen for a reason.

Colten: I wanted to be a 3D artist for movies and video games when I was a kid. I grew up drawing my favorite cartoons and making funny voices and noises and have always had a passion for art. I feel like that fits into my journey into Colorado real estate because I feel like I can pull from that and think outside of the box sometimes. Art is often about thinking outside of the box and coming up with creative solutions and very rarely is a real estate transaction easy and straightforward.

Lia: I always wanted to be a large animal vet when I grew up, but after finishing college, I realized I wanted something different for my life. Growing up around construction—new builds, remodels, and everything in between—I was always drawn to the homeownership process. That background gave me a deep appreciation for real estate, and eventually, I found my niche with the team.

Let’s fast forward—what do they love most about helping buyers?

Q: What’s the most rewarding stage of helping someone buy a home?

Rob: It's actually after the transaction is finished. One of my favorite memories is stopping by to drop off a gift to a young couple that bought a house in the fall. I came by in the middle of December and found them about to open Christmas presents because they weren't going to be home on Christmas Day. Seeing them in their home, by their fire, surrounded by presents, is a picture that sticks with me years later. That’s really what the job is all about and it’s why I keep in touch!

Colten: The most rewarding stage of helping someone buy a home is closing day for sure! Starting with the final walk through and then getting to walk around their new home right before going to the close table is my favorite part. I’ve had several clients ask me if we can go back to the home after closing so I can capture some first photos of them in their new place. Getting to see the excitement and see them start to plan for their future in a home is one of the coolest feelings.

Lia: When the transaction is complete, and you know with confidence that they were well represented and taken care of throughout the entire process. There’s nothing better than seeing clients get the keys to their new home, knowing they made a well-informed decision and had a smooth, stress-free experience. It’s a great feeling to be part of such a big milestone in their lives!

And finally, with spring right around the corner, a final word from our fearless leader, Rob Thompson:

Q: What’s your favorite season in Colorado and why?

Rob: Spring! I love to see the days get longer, the weather get warmer and the vegetation come back to life. To make it even better, some of the best skiing is still ahead at the beginning of March while the opportunity to play pickleball outside or hike is just beginning. Finally, baseball season starts!

Here’s to increasing sunshine in the weeks ahead! We’ll be back with another installment in the Team Member Spotlight series later this year.

In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions about the market, your home goals, or even question submissions for future Team Member Spotlights!
